While artists have long turned to themes centered around nature to explore the concepts of peace, tranquility and the oasis, this creative dialogue is taking place with a new set of tools, forged to navigate the challenges of urban living. With over 54% of the global population in cities, the expectation to produce and disseminate information instantaneously is ubiquitous.
Facing the demands of modern day hyper-productivity, what does the urban oasis look like now that we’re more likely to stumble upon a fully packed subway car than an idyllic hillside? This group exhibition will feature work by artists Patrick Eugene, Josana Blue and Julian Rapp.

An emerging talent in abstract expressionism, Haitian American painter, Patrick Eugène (b. 1984) challenges the social, cultural and societal expectations placed on and held by his contemporaries.
Eugène’s work challenges the truncated nature of popular culture. His canvases are rich in color and emotion, encouraging the viewer to reconsider the urge to abbreviate and to instead dig deeper.
Capturing the complex joys, anxieties and confusion of coming of age in New York City, Eugène’s work hearkens back to a time before emotions were most often abbreviated into social media’s hashtags and brief status updates.
Viewers are spurred to consider their own abridgement of popular culture, to consider their own participation in the compulsory limitation of their own emotions and experiences and to look closer at each of the conditions presented in Eugène’s work.
Eugène continues to produce work that elucidates his generation's struggle to express itself within the confines of a social media dominated culture and ever increasing demands for communication efficiency.
Hailing from Winthrop Maine, Josana Blue received her Master of Arts from New York University with a semester of studies in Venice, Italy.
Josana’s paintings have been shown in numerous galleries and alternative venues both state side and abroad. A great deal of Blue’s paintings have been purchased for both private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. over the past 17 years.
Having functioned as both interior and fashion designer her skill set and artistic eye have brought innovation to both private and corporate clients.
Josana currently lives and works in her Bushwick, Brooklyn art studio.
b. 1985 Julian Rapp is a full time artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. His work is based in abstraction and aims to highlight the color and diversity of everyday life.
Rapp's paintings are collected internationally and can be seen in establishments and homes around New York City and beyond.
